Why not..........?

She was doing every work with great enthusiasm, making haste from one place to another, asking everyone if they need anything, greeting them.
Everybody was saying, why not, Madhav is her childhood friend; she’s bound to be responsible and happy. She was working as if; she wanted nothing to go wrong, checking everything again and again.
Sunita aunty said, “Come sit with us for a while Megha, if you’ll keep on working like this, then you are surely going to fall ill girl.
You came here to enjoy the wedding or work your ass off?
See how beautiful all this jewellery is, it’s for Madhav’s bride.”
Megha smiled a brilliant smile, nodded and went out hastily promising to be back in few minutes to see if tea is being served proper or not.
But this time she couldn’t deny, because it was Madhav’s elder sister, Shalini.
Shalini literally dragged her to the place where Haldi ceremony was taking place.
Megha pleaded her of being busy, trying hard to give her an excuse but Shalini won’t listen to anything.
Shalini pretended to be angry with her saying, “No way Megha, you have to attend at least this ceremony otherwise its really going to upset me.
Someone else can do the work; you came here to attend your friend’s wedding or working. If you’ll keep on working like this then you are going to miss all the fun.” And she did drag her to the ceremony.
She was standing there, watching the ceremony. Watching how everybody was so happy, she could hear happy noises, laughter and chit-chat.
“Megha, Megha” she heard Shalini calling her name, “Come fast, your turn.”
“Me? No-No, you people continue, I need to go now.”
She was still trying to reason but by then Shalini came in front of her with the bowl of Haldi (turmeric) paste in her hand, pushing her, saying, “Come on, hurry up darling, just go and apply Haldi.” And gave some paste in her hands.
Madhav kept watching her coming towards him; he was not being able to understand that why Megha didn’t come to his engagement party , even after calling her so many times or avoiding him. Though he knew that she would deny, but he knew that she surely was avoiding him.
And then she came, Haldi paste in her hands. Madhav tried to search her face and then he found it, found it in her eyes.
When their eyes met, he wanted to say so many things but couldn’t, Megha managed to hide everything but not her eyes.
Madhav managed to ask through his eyes just that, “Why? Why didn’t she say anything?”
Then she left, after all she had so much work to do. Both could hear all the happy noises of laughter and music.
